About What Are Pepitas
What Are Pepitas is an independent kitchen-reference site about one narrow subject: the seeds inside a pumpkin, in both of the forms cooks actually meet them. Pepitas are the hulled kernel. Pumpkin seeds, in ordinary usage, are the same seed still wearing its shell. Almost every question a cook has about one of them has a different answer for the other, and most of the confusion online comes from pages that treat the two as interchangeable.
The site is organised as three pillar guides — the basics hub, pepita recipes and pumpkin seed recipes — each surrounded by detailed articles on a single method or question. Pillars summarise and route; articles go deep on one thing.
What we publish
Method pages with stated temperatures, times and weights. Comparison tables. Ratio tables for sauces, salsas and seasoning. Storage and shelf-life guidance. Definitions that distinguish the two seed forms and the cultivars behind them.
How the numbers are produced
Nutrient figures are rounded from public food-composition databases, principally USDA FoodData Central, and are stated per 100 g and per realistic portion. Values vary by cultivar, growing conditions and processing, so they are reference points, not laboratory results for any specific bag. Where a figure is an estimate rather than a database value we say so.
What we do not do
We sell no seeds, snacks or equipment. We run no affiliate price comparisons and accept no payment for placement. We give no medical, dietary or supplementation advice and make no health claims: nutrient content statements only. Nothing here is a substitute for professional advice about your own diet.
